Marimekko Celebrates 60 Years

marimekko-logo

A couple of weeks ago I posted an article about Marimekko here. Yesterday the Guardian had a great article about the brand and how it continues to grow and gain international followers.  They also had the top 10 Marimekko designs which can be found here.

Marimekko celebrates 60 years of ‘happiness, colors and relationships’ and to mark the occasion Marimekko invited their Facebook fans to demonstrate what they could do with their fabrics. The most exciting ideas were published on the Marimekko website, while participants with the most compelling submissions were invited to participate in a Marimekko workshop at Helsinki headquarters. The result of those sessions was showcased in a group show, which is on exhibit at Jannelli & Volpi’s shop in Milan, Italy.

New York Fashion Week Highlight 2012

One of my favourite designers had his showcase at New York Fashion week a couple of days ago.  Oscar De La Renta’s spring 2012 collection yet again proved his talent for making women not only look beautiful but for dressing them in  supreme elegance.  He is without a doubt the man who knows how to dress women from cocktail hour and beyond. I love this taffeta gown with pouf skirt and embroidered top which opened the show it is most definitely the New York Fashion week highlight 2012 for me. My only problem is how to afford it and where to wear it.

100 years of style

This amazing video was created by Westfield Stratford City, who are opening what is supposed to be the largest shopping center in London tomorrow. The video is 100 years of style in 100 seconds of East London fashion, showing an outfit for each year and music and dance steps to go with them.

Designer Labels for Less

UntitledAnyone who has an interest in looking good will often also have an interest or even an eye towards Fashion. You don’t have to wear the latest trend or designer labels to look great, if you follow your style and colour rules then you will look good regardless of who made your clothes.

Designer labels are not only fashion forward but are great quality but lets face it, whether its fashion or quality you love, no one likes the price tag that comes with them  so if you would like to get your hands on some designer labels for less check out www.hardlyeverwornit.com.

HardlyEverWornIt is the brainchild of a London divorcee who wanted to clear out her closet and create jobs for her daughters in a family firm, everyone from me and you right up to VIPs are selling there barely worn designer items for a fraction of the cost they paid for them.

There is something for most budgets so take a look but hide your credit card first or you may end up buying more than you plan on.

Tom Ford Cosmetics

Last Saturday was the launch of Tom Ford cosmetics here in Ireland at Brown Thomas Dublin.

I attended with fellow blogger VJCowley who had her make-up done by a lovely girl named Kelly. The make up range itself is pure luxury, from the texture to the application it was quality. Kelly was well informed and told us all about the range, including the brushes.

The collection ranges in price from €45 for lipstick up to €75 for the eyeshadow palette. What I coveted the most though was the brushes, they are a mixture of natural and synthetic hair and start at €42 for the lip brush up to €100 for the larger brush, Tom Ford apparently favours Brush No 2 so if your budget is limited, you could purchase just this one.

There is no denying that these cosmetics are not cheap, so if your budget is limited it is a bit hard to spend this much on cosmetics without a guilty conscience and an empty purse.  After watching the application and seeing the quality of these cosmetics I would advise that if your budget stretches then do purchase the range. If you are not able to afford them then think about purchasing a lipstick or something smaller from the collection.

I don’t think you need to spend a lot of money to get great looking make-up but this was such a quality collection that I can only say that I think every girl deserves a little something special in her make-up case for those grey days, which lets face it we have plenty of in Ireland.
