What to Wear When Proposing

A leap year comes around every 4 years on February 29th. According to an Irish legend, St Bridget wanted women to be allowed to propose to men so she struck a deal with St Patrick so that they could, when a leap year fell.

In many European countries, the tradition stated that if you proposed and were refused then your intended had to buy you a dress or pay a penalty of money. In upper class European societies the refusal of a woman’s proposal meant the man had to buy her 12 pairs of gloves. Apparently to hide that she doesn’t wear an engagement ring on her finger.

If your one of those ladies who have decided to take your future into your own hands then what colour you wear may help with your success. When choosing what to wear when proposing, pick something that has both pink and blue in it.  Pink is a good colour to wear to attract a steady partner. It represents the best traits of romantic red but is calmer and more pure than passionate red, it symbolizes romance and long-term happiness.  Blue is also a good colour if you’re looking for long term commitment and stability in a relationship.

The clothes themselves shouldn’t matter too much as long as you are not a wearing a potato sack or bin bag but maybe a dress will put the odds further in your favour. Good luck x

How to Wear Coloured Jeans

With spring lines hitting stores as we speak, one trend that’s set to continue is coloured jeans. Seen on every celebrity and every street corner at the moment, the trend is a great way to add a pop of colour to your wardrobe. If you love this look but aren’t sure how to pull it off then follow these tips on how to wear coloured jeans.

  • Skinny are the way to go - skinny leg coloured jeans are really the most chic way to pull off this look but if you cant pull off skinny jeans then wear them as you would jeggings or tights.
  • Let them be your statement piece, pair them with blacks, whites, tans or even muted patterns and keep the accessories simple and neutral.
  • If your feeling bold try colour blocking but again the accessories should be neutral to tone it down and never wear the same colour from top to toe as you’ll just look like a walking marker.
  • Avoid being too match-y with your accessories and tops, again the jeans should be the statement of your outfit.
  • Pair them with ballerina pumps or ankle boots or even this seasons must have shoe the loafer. Take your inspiration from these celebs!

Caring for Knitwear

On any given Winters day or any day year round with even the slightest chill, you can be guaranteed to find me nestled somewhere with a jumper, cardigan or large scarf for comfort. I love nothing better than feeling cozy when the weather is less than inviting. As we are right in the middle of Winter I am spending most mornings trying to figure out which variety of knitwear to pull on to prevent any coldness attaching itself to me. I really should think about moving somewhere warmer.

Too often in the past I found myself a new knit to take comfort in only to wash it or store it and have ended up with something that resembles a sausage dogs winter coat with holes.  So, how does one go about caring for knitwear?

Tools you will need:
Pilling Comb
Cedar/lavender ball/moth sachets
Breathable storage bags
Wool and Cashmere shampoo
Wool and cashmere spray
Microfiber wash bag
Stain solution

Pre-Treat. When you buy your cashmere store it in the freezer for 24 hours in a Ziploc bag and it will reduce pilling. Before washing always de-pill using pilling comb. Treat any stains with solution then pre soak.

Wash it. Turn the item inside out to prevent any damage, this will also maintain the wool dye for longer. For knits that can be washed in the machine, always use the delicate setting and place item in a wash bag that will protect it. For Cashmere and more delicate knits hand wash in tepid water with Wool and Cashmere shampoo.

Dry it.  If the item has come out of the delicate setting of the machine then remove from the bag and re-shape while damp and dry it flat. If you have hand washed Cashmere then roll it like a sausage in a towel and gently pat the item, never wring it out as it will destroy the shape and delicate fibres.  Remove from the towel and dry the item flat. Never put any wool in the dryer. When dry you can remove any further pilling.

Store it. Heavy knits should always be folded, storing on a hanger will destroy their shape. Lightweight knits can be hung and anything with embellishments should be hung to avoid snagging. Your wardrobe should have plenty of cedar or lavender balls or moth sachets to prevent those pesky creatures destroying your knits. Flat knitwear should be sprayed with a Wool and Cashmere spray and packed in a breathable cotton bag with a zip closure.

You can find all the items needed to keep your knits healthy from www.thelaundress.com, www.brora.com and www.thewhitecompany.com

Friday 5: Girls Valentine Gift List

I love presents, I don’t care why I’m getting them but I love them. I tend to get really shy and embarrassed when opening them in front of other people in case I don’t like it and my face gives it away. If I do like it, I resort to my inner child with smiles, giggles and jumping up and down. I also love good food, champagne and being pampered in general. I mean I don’t know any woman who doesn’t..right?  That being the case I should love Valentines Day but I don’t, maybe I should be happy to fall head first into all that romance but if you ask me its far better to get a little bit of romance every day, rather than a lot once a year.

Sure romance is great, it’s really important that we feel cherished by our partners but what I remember about being single is how depressing it can feel to be alone on Valentines Day when everyone else is knee deep in roses and kisses. Most of us do make an effort to be loving to our other half regularly but I cant say that we often thank our friends for being there so this year whether your single or in a relationship why not pick something from my girls valentine gift list for yourself or for a friend
